Should you do your own conveyancing? If you fancy a big challenge then you can try doing your own conveyancing. A number of buyers and sellers are increasing going for the do it yourself conveyancing. However you should think carefully before taking on such a daunting project. If you have no previous experience in doing this job then you are buying a leasehold property this could be very complicated.

You may also run into problems if the other party are doing their own conveyancing themselves as well. If a whole lot of legal problems arise without expert advice neither party might be able to sort them out. Conveyancing is complicated and very time consuming so if you are in busy full time job you may find it hard to cope. Professional conveyancing companies sometimes have several employees that take on some of the work to get the job done quicker.

Doing your own conveyancing may mean due to time you may have to cut corners. However when you are paying thousands for a house any mistakes can be very costly if you get anything wrong. Even if you decide to take on this job yourself your mortgage lender is likely to insist that you pay its legal fees for preparing the mortgage deed. Usually the lender will allow the buyers solicitor to do this on their behalf and that cost is normally included in a professional conveyancing costs. So your savings on doing your own conveyancing may not be as good as you initially anticipated.

The other thing to check is if you are taking out a mortgage you will also have to check that your lender will allow you to do your own conveyancing because some do not agree with this. Another option if you just want to save money is to check out specialized conveyancing companies that only do this job. These companies can be cheaper than solicitors themselves because this is the only work they do.

Think! If you do decide to do the conveyancing yourself, make sure you do all your research properly and avoid cutting corners as buying a house is a big expense so it will be no good being penny wise but pound foolish.
