Building a concrete building is an important job. When deciding to construct a building, the type of materials used should be the main thing to consider. For instance, scaffolding is used to support materials in the construction and repairing of buildings. Whereas, insulation is used to provide comfort and ensure that energy efficiency is maintained.

A building is a term that is used to define any man-made structure intended for the purpose of providing support and shelter to an individual. Buildings come in a variety of forms and shapes. As per their theme of construction, they tend to perform that particular function. Taking into consideration the function of the space, architects then construct the building depending upon the features and characteristics required. The following are some of the different types of buildings:

  • Agricultural building - Agriculture buildings like a farm, farmhouse, windmill, watermill, shed, etc, require specific buildings to run an operation. The farm or farmhouse buildings are usually made of either metal or wood, and are usually wooden buildings. Their main purpose is to raise animals and livestock. Usually, rows of stalls can be seen, with a grooming area or perhaps stall shower. When it comes to crop farming, the storage of equipment and machinery is important. Another main aspect is to store grains, like corn, oats and beans.
  • Commercial building - Commercial buildings are those structures, that are used for businesses. They focus on a combination of function with style, to meet the needs of the business. These buildings concentrate more on work space, exterior appearance, as well as proper site location. For instance, designs for a building which can hold multiple offices will be different from a single story office or a park-like setting.
  • Residential building - Residential buildings, also known as homes or houses, are buildings that contain a large number of separate units, or rooms, and can range from single family home to apartment buildings. The variety in this type of building may include one-room, wood-framed dwelling, or maybe a multi-million dollar building. While building residential buildings, special care should be taken with safety issues, and functionality matters, as well as floor plans and material used.
  • Educational building - Educational buildings include places like colleges, schools, museums, universities, theaters and libraries. They are designed to provide education to people, under supervision of a teacher and where students learn about the subjects they are offered. A library is however a different place in respect to other educational buildings, as it holds a collection of resources and services, and is maintained by a public body or any institution.
  • Religious buildings - Religious buildings are comprised of places for worship. They vary as per religion: Mosque is a sacred place for Muslims, while a church is for Christians, and so are other religious buildings, such as a shrine, fire temple, pagoda, gurdwara, monastery, synagogue etc. They are sacred destinations, where people come and worship. The design of each of the type of religious building varies with the functions that are performed there.
